Upper School (IGCSEs)

Online IGCSE French

Description

Our Online IGCSE French course is meticulously designed to provide learners with a profound understanding of both the French language and culture. Within this IGCSE French Online platform, students will rapidly acquire the skills to speak and understand French in diverse, everyday communication scenarios. The course’s pedagogy is rooted in the essential language skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing, and students will see significant progress in these areas as they advance through the course.

Besides linguistic proficiency, our IGCSE French Online Course also delves into the culture and civilisation of French-speaking countries. This multifaceted approach not only enriches the learning experience but also fosters positive attitudes towards language learning and speakers of foreign languages. Completing this Online IGCSE French programme provides a solid foundation for further study at A Level and beyond.

Homework, Assessment and Reporting

In our French IGCSE Online framework, students in the Upper School are expected to complete at least one piece of homework per subject every fortnight in Level 3, and weekly in Level 4. Ensuring success in this IGCSE French Online course requires diligent revision of notes to reinforce learning after each session. We strongly advocate the creation of revision cards and comprehensive notes for each topic, aiding students in their preparation well ahead of their final exams at the end of this two-year course.

For assessment within the IGCSE French Online Course, Level 3 internal evaluations occur in June, while Level 4 internal mock assessments are scheduled for November and March. Reports are issued at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms for Level 3, and after mock assessments in the Autumn and Spring terms for Level 4. These reports include grades for attainment and effort across each subject, along with written commentary from Success Coaches and the Head Teacher.

To maintain open communication about students’ progress throughout the year, parents are encouraged to utilise their family Teams account. This unique approach allows for more detailed tracking than what is provided in our annual parent consultation evening.

The syllabus content is organised around five broad Topic areas which provide contexts for the acquisition of vocabulary and the study of grammar and structures.

The course comprises 5 core topics designed to ensure students learn key vocabulary that is useful in everyday life contexts.

Recorded lessons produced by Cambridge Home School based in Cambridge UK – probably the best online school in the UK.

The 5 topics are:

  • Everyday activities
  • Personal and social life
  • The world around us
  • The world of work
  • The international world

To pass the course candidates must succeed in 4 assessment areas:

  • Paper 1. Listening
  • Paper 2. Reading
  • Paper 3. Speaking
  • Paper 4. Writing

Parents are responsible for arranging their child’s examinations at their local registered examination centre. Cambridge Home School students study from every part of the globe and so it is not practical for the school to offer a single venue to sit examinations. Consequently, Cambridge Home School is not registered with Cambridge International Examinations but has partnerships with examination centres registered with Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel, OCR and AQA, and will support students in locating a suitable venue for sitting their written and practical examinations.
