A wide variety of assessment methods are used in school including assessment through class tasks, homework, class tests and in some year groups, mock assessments. Teachers are involved in the continuous assessment of students’ work during class activities, monitoring not only academic attainment but also their engagement and collaboration. Teachers give feedback on assignments which can be viewed and revisited by the student.
Through assessment, students become aware of what they are learning and applying, and of their progress in a subject. The reporting system for L1 to L7 (Years 7 to 13) revolves around regular termly communication with parents. This will take the form of an Effort grade early in Term 1, and then Attainment Grades, a Full Report and a Parent Teacher conference. Attainment grades or ‘working at’ grades are awarded with reference to how well a student has completed their work, in relation to subject specific criteria and the nature of work being undertaken. Each teacher will base this grade on criteria agreed within their subject area. Effort grades cover a variety of skills and attributes that we expect to see in an online learner. It covers aspects such as organisation, engagement, independence and curiosity. We use a best fit model for awarding the effort grade and the criteria staff use will be available with the report.
Reports will be published electronically on the Parent Portal and parents will be informed when they are available to view.
