What a Year We’ve Had in the Prep School!
Here we are—another year complete! And what a year it has been.
The Prep School has been buzzing with activity from start to finish. Alongside our academic lessons, we’ve taken part in a huge variety of clubs and enrichment opportunities. Just look at this list: STEM, French, Social Club, Sports Club, Makaton, Art Club, Roblox, Minecraft, Dino Club, Astronomy, Bake a Story, and Horrible Histories! And that’s just the Prep School clubs! We’ve also been lucky enough to join in with Whole School Clubs like Handicrafts, Yoga, and Think Big. No wonder we’re ready for a summer break!
But it’s all been so much fun. Our live lessons have been anything but ordinary—engaging, interactive, and full of variety. Whether we’re working as a class, in groups, pairs, or independently, there’s always something exciting going on. Sometimes we even lead the learning ourselves, which is a fantastic way to consolidate our knowledge. Games, videos, class discussions—it’s cameras on and hands up all the way!
You might be wondering: What else have we done this year? Well, plenty!
In October, we held our annual Head Pupil Team elections. Candidates wrote and practised their speeches before presenting them to the whole Prep School. After that, it was time to vote! Congratulations to our Head Pupil, Pandora French, and our two Deputies, Iara Reevs and Robert Muthukrishna. They’ve done a brilliant job leading the school, and we’ll certainly miss Pandora and Robert as they move on to the Senior School.
In December, we held a heartwarming charity Talent Show. Pupils submitted video entries showing off their amazing skills—from magic and dance to singing and skateboarding! Parents kindly donated to watch the show, and we raised over £300 for ShelterBox, a fantastic charity supporting displaced families around the world.
This year also saw us take part in several exciting live-stream events. We watched A Midsummer Night’s Dream streamed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, explored our planet with the Eden Project, and even celebrated Mars Day by listening to astronaut Tim Peake—it was out of this world!
Our community events were real highlights too. In April, many of us met in Cambridge for a sunny afternoon of picnicking and playing together. More recently, some of our families gathered in Lisbon and held their Sports Day activities right on the beach—how lucky is that?
Speaking of Sports Day, yes, we have a Virtual Sports Day here at CHS! It’s always one of the most exciting parts of the year, and we can’t wait to see who takes home the House Cup!
This has also been a record-breaking year for the Prep School. We’ve welcomed more pupils than ever before, and we’re still growing! A special milestone was the launch of our brand-new Pre Prep classes, where we enrolled our youngest learners yet—4-, 5-, and 6-year-olds. They’ve been incredible: growing in confidence, making friends, and making wonderful progress. Well done, Pre Prep!
As the school year wraps up, our final week has been packed with fun. We’ve enjoyed a Community Day, Virtual Sports Day, and two fantastic activity days with each Prep teacher. We’ve composed music, learned French and Makaton, played online games, gone on scavenger hunts, and even baked cupcakes!
And the excitement isn’t over yet! On Friday, we’ll meet our new teachers during Transition Morning, followed by class parties. Our end-of-term assembly will be a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to our amazing Year 6 pupils. They’ve been the best yet, and we’ll miss them dearly.
What a year it’s been. We can’t wait to see what the next one will bring!
Have a wonderful summer.
Mrs Claire Roberts, Head of Prep School
